In this video we’re talking about saw palmetto and how it can potentially help you combat hair loss. Before we get started, let’s talk a bit about DHT, what it is and how it is related to hair loss.

Dihydrotestosterone or DHT for short is a potent androgen created from the primary male sex hormone testosterone. DHT is essential for several functions in the body, especially the development of the body through puberty.

But for those genetically susceptible to hair loss, DHT is bad news as it’s one of the primary reasons hair loss occurs. High levels of DHT can shrink hair follicles and also shorten the hair growth cycle which increases the rate in which hairs fall out.

All you need to know is that DHT causes hair loss and that by decreasing DHT you can help reduce hair loss. The drug finasteride – also known as Propecia – has been proven to stop hair loss as it drastically decreases DHT by reducing the conversion of testosterone to DHT.

However, this drug does run the possibility of causing several side effects. Thankfully more natural treatments can decrease DHT levels with the possibility of less intense side severe effects, such as saw palmetto.

What is saw palmetto?

Saw palmetto is a supplement that comes from the fruit of the Serenoa repens tree. Saw palmetto is often used as a natural treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Some people also use saw palmetto to help improve libido, although the majority of people take saw palmetto as a treatment for hair loss. There is evidence that saw palmetto can help to prevent and perhaps reverse hair loss.

The reason why saw palmetto works is similar in many ways to the drug finasteride. Saw palmetto helps to stop further hair loss by blocking the enzyme which converts testosterone to DHT, but to a lesser degree than finasteride. (*always consult your doctor first, individual results may vary)

You can look at saw palmetto as being finasteride’s little brother.

A study found that people taking a 200 mg daily dose of saw palmetto experienced a 60% reduction in hair loss compared to the placebo group. This study was small, but these results are quite promising.

Another study which lasted two years compared the effectiveness of finasteride to saw palmetto and found that saw palmetto worked for hair loss, although to a lesser degree than finasteride.

This isn’t surprising due to finasteride having very potent effects on the endocrine system.

Overall there definitely does seem to be some evidence that saw palmetto can potentially help with hair loss. However, it’s clear that more research needs to be done.

For potentially better results, some users use saw palmetto in conjunction with other proven methods for hair loss. (*always consult your doctor first, individual results may vary)

It’s not a good idea to put your hopes on saw palmetto alone to stop your hair loss.

For some people experiencing hair fall, it can also be recommended to use laser therapy to help slow down baldness. Low-level laser therapy has been clinically proven to stop and reverse hair loss without any known nasty side effects (*always consult your doctor first, individual results may vary)

The idea that DHT is the only cause of hair loss is wrong. There are several factors which contribute to stopping and regrowing hair.

Low-level laser therapy helps to increase the production of energy in cells which normalizes energy production and helps hair to grow.

By combining hair growth promoting supplements such as saw palmetto with laser therapy, you can potentially receive results you will be extremely happy with! This combination can potentially not only stop hair loss but also may increase your chances of growing your hair back.
