유전도 아닌데…젊은 ‘탈모’ 환자 증가하는 이유

Many people expect hair loss in their 40s and into their 50s, …but an increasing number of people in their 20s and 30s are also losing their hair.
In addition to genetic factors, exposure to stress and a poor diet can cause hair to fall out.
Park Se-young has more.
The Korean Society of Hair Restoration Treatment estimates about ten-million people in the country suffer from hair loss.
It’s normal to lose 50 to 100 strands of hair per day.
However, losing more than 100 hairs per day can be a sign of hair loss.
“It started in my early 40s and I began losing more hair in my mid-40s, so I went to a dermatologist. I heard it was due to excessive work, fatigue and stress.”
Hair loss treatment is more effective when started before the age of 40 and within ten years of when hair loss first began.
In 2018, more young people were treated for hair loss than the middle aged group.
The highest number of people were in their late 20s, followed by early 30s, late 30s and early 40s.
“Minoxidil is a spray treatment. As for pills, Propecia has been used for a long time and recently, dutasteride has been used for more aggressive treatment.”
To prevent hair loss, it’s important to maintain a clean scalp.
It’s better to wash hair in the evening rather than the morning using a shampoo suitable for one’s type of scalp and hair.
It’s also important to have a balanced diet.
An excessive or poor diet can result in a lack of essential nutrients for hair growth.
And smoking can lead to DNA damage of the hair follicles, which also leads to hair loss.
