Among the most common physiological conditions that a woman will experience in her life will be pregnancy . There are whole lot of changes, least of which are the changes in the skin and hair and most of the women 2 or 3 months after delivery or after delivery ad this condition is well documented as acute telogen effluvium. This means is that we have our hair most of our hair is in growth phase. There is shift to telogen and to come to the scalp is between 8 weeks to 12 weeks. What happens is during pregnancy there is a long period of progesterone hormone is protecting the hair follicles and immediately after delivery the progesterone hormone is protecting the hair follicle and immediately after delivery progesterone level decease and this causes 40 to 50% move synchronously into telogen. This means after 2 months after delivery there is going to be massive hair loss. There are later and later pregnancy. So there may be concomitant thyroid probes, vitamin deficiency. All this contribute to the hair not growing back. So hair loss after pregnancy is a natural event but when it doesn’t grow back is you have t rule out thyroid problem, vitamin deficiency.
